   "Awake Dream Beginning"

               By Mark A. Garcia

I dreamt of a power where at first
I could only squeal in real time.
But then it soared; my voice, a truth apart
rising , pure,  infinite. When I awoke, I realized
I've never heard my lovers' screams.
Nor my own.
I work in the cold light that binds us to each other.
I breathe in the dark of guilt's bottomless stare.
(Toss me a cigarette I think there's one in my raincoat)
Oh, come on Eva, let me show you these bombs
I've been building out back.

Hope is a fear crying out.
Lust is something you lose once you've had it,
love is something you don't feel until it's gone.
(And watch one cigarette burn away.)
In another world, another instant,
another flash of magic, bodies collide
they slip, they fit, they twitch, so quick so tragic.
I-I, you-you, stutter together & fall.
(I-I had a feeling that I belonged, I-I)
Not now Atom, the soaps are on & I think
my face is beginning to crack.
